A Night of T/Reason: Celebrating 50 Years of Punk [SOLD OUT]

50 years after Punk exploded onto the King’s Road, we celebrate with A Night of T/Reason at Saatchi Gallery – exploring the music, fashion and cultural rebellion that changed Britain forever.

Named after one of the earliest legendary Punk concerts, A Night of T/Reason brings together key voices from the original scene for a raw, entertaining and thought-provoking exploration of Punk’s origins. At the heart of the evening are two interconnected conversations exploring the collision of music and fashion, Punk’s enduring legacy and continuing influence on fashion, music and culture. Looking back through the eyes of those who were there, the discussions will weave together the stories, people, places and ideas that shaped the movement, while asking what Punk still means 50 years on.

Writer and broadcaster Robert Elms, will join the ‘first female Punk star’ Gaye Advert of The Adverts, Clash drummer Terry Chimes, Andrew Czezowski – co-founder of the infamous venue The Roxy – alongside his lifelong partner Susan Carrington, Lauren Estelle Jones, director of her father Mick Jones’ personal archive, The Rock & Roll Public Library – who will share their experiences of the Punk music scene on the King’s Road, and it’s continued legacy today, in a conversation hosted by writer Chris Salewicz.

Pioneering fashion designer Lloyd Johnson and Fashion School founder Caroline Gration will explore the emergence of Punk fashion on the King’s Road and its evolution, alongside fashion designer, filmmaker and writer Phil Strongman,
Nigel Brickell owner of the King’s Road Punk shop Smutz, award-winning filmmaker and writer Celeste Bell, custodian of her mother Poly Styrene’s archive, and DJ, designer and Vivienne Westwood collaborator Edie Ashley.

Throughout the evening, conversations will be interwoven with music from the era, while intimate photographs by Jane Ashley, who documented members of The Pistols and The Clash from inside the scene itself, will be exhibited.

Expect first-hand stories, music, photographs and perspectives from the people who were there, alongside a vivid exploration of the energy, ideas and creative rebellion that made Punk such a transformative cultural force.
