Lauren Cuthbertson

English dancer Lauren Cuthbertson is a Principal of The Royal Ballet, having joined the Company in 2002 after training at The Royal Ballet School and becoming a Principal in 2008. Born in Devon, she has become one of the Company’s most celebrated dancers, performing leading roles across the classical repertoire and creating roles for choreographers including Wayne McGregor, Christopher Wheeldon and Cathy Marston. Her many accolades include two Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards for Outstanding Female Performance (Classical), most recently in 2021 for her performance as Jacqueline du Pré in The Cellist. She has also performed internationally as a guest artist and at major national celebrations, including the Platinum Party for Queen Elizabeth II. Lauren joins our Blue Plaques Talk Back event at Cadogan Hall on Friday 18th September at 1pm, to explore the life and legacy of ballet dancer and educator Princess Serafina Astafieva. Astafieva’s Blue Plaque marks her former studio on the King’s Road, where she taught generations of dancers including Anton Dolin, Margot Fonteyn and Marie Rambert. As a leading figure in British ballet, Lauren brings a unique perspective to the story of this remarkable woman and the extraordinary ballet history woven into the streets of Chelsea.
