Grace Snell

Grace Snell is an award-winning British costume designer, recognised for her work on SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, Pillion, The Outrun, and The Souvenir films.

Grace studied Costume Interpretation at Wimbledon College of Arts (UAL), specialising in costume construction and the dyeing and treatment of fabrics. This technical foundation informs her design practice, with a strong emphasis on craft and technique.

With deep roots in independent cinema, Grace began her long-standing collaboration with director Joanna Hogg who she has been working with for 10 years. In 2021, she won the British Independent Film Award for Best Costume Design for The Souvenir Part II and styled Joanna Hogg’s short film for Miu Miu in their Women’s Tales 29 series.

BAFTA-nominated Pillion saw Grace receive her second British Independent Film Award in 2025 for her authentic and nuanced costume designs, exploring the dynamics of a BDSM relationship, starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling.

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is Grace’s first studio film. In approaching the designs, Grace balanced historical accuracy with interpretation, placing a strong focus on the ways clothes are worn, shared, and loved by the characters. Grace and her team created a distinctive palette using plant-based dyes and natural materials. Every costume was designed to be as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside, with the majority of garments hand-sewn.
