The relationship between art and fashion has never been more fluid. Today’s designers draw on painting, sculpture, film and performance as a fundamental part of their creative process. Not as decoration applied after the fact, but as a way of thinking from the very beginning. Art shapes the structure of a garment, the atmosphere of a show, the symbols woven through a collection.
Some collaborations are literal like a canvas translated into fabric or an artist’s palette absorbed into a season. Others are more elusive such as a shared sensibility that moves from gallery wall to runway without being named. In both cases, the exchange raises the same questions. What does it mean for fashion to take art seriously? And what does art gain from the encounter?
Join us at the Saatchi Gallery, where host Rosalyn Wikeley and a panel of leading voices explore how art is influencing the way fashion is made, presented and understood.
Panellists include Emily Carter and Nicole Zisman, with further guests to be announced.
