Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is an award-winning actor of the stage and screen. Her stage performances include HAMLET (2009) alongside Jude Law in the West End, ELSINORE in Denmark and Broadway, and NELL GWYNN (2015), for which she was nominated for ‘Best Actress’ at the 2015 Evening Standard Theatre awards.

In film, Gugu is known for her breakout role in the period drama period drama BELLE (2013), for which she won Best Actress at the 2014 BIFA Awards. She has also starred in films such asLARRY CROWNE (2011), BEYOND THE LIGHTS (2014), CONCUSSION (2015),THE WHOLE TRUTH (2016), MISS SLOANE (2016) and FREE STATE OF JONES (2016).Gugu next went on to star in back-to-back Disney blockbustersBEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2017) and A WRINKLE IN TIME (2018) opposite Oprah Winfrey and Reece Witherspoon. In 2018, Gugu further appeared in romantic tragicomedy CLOVERFIELD PARADOX and Stephanie Laing’s IRREPLACEABLE YOU for Netflix, and FARMING.

 For television, Gugu will lead THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA, a Doctor Who series that will air on BBC and Disney+; Gugu also recently wrapped the Sky TV limited series INHERITANCE, and will lead opposite Richard Madden in Netflix series TRINITY.

Gugu was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to drama. Outside of acting, she is also a passionate Global Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR.
