Dr Shama Rahman

Dr Shama Rahman is an AI scientist and neuroscientist with an expertise in AI/human creative systems design, creative strategist and technologist, artist, entrepreneur and Innovation Fellow.

Her research into the neuroscience of creativity, has led to her development of ‘thinking’ frameworks towards utilising AI in the creative process. She has embedded these frameworks via a pioneering neurodesign approach within her work in product and experience design, innovation, educational courses, and her own artistic practice.

She holds a PhD in the neuroscience and complex systems of Creative Cognition and Innovation. She is the co-author of several books – ‘Creativity in the Twenty First Century: Multidisciplinary Contributions to the Science of Creative Thinking’ ; ‘Towards a Curriculum for Innovation Engineering – Design Thinking in Education: Innovation can be learned’; ‘NeuroDesign Live’: ‘Design Thinking Research: Interrogating the Doing’. Her current fellowship at the University of Edinburgh, traverses research into industry and practice of AI/human collaborative systems.

Her multi-disciplinary practice has led her to be the Creative Director and founder of the Art/Science experiential agency Jugular Productions, producing immersive events and hybrid experiences, installations, performances, cross-disciplinary dialogue salons, and games.

As an artist her work has notably encompassed the use of AI-mediated wearable technology to enhance storytelling, she was the first Sitarist Explorer to perform in Antarctica on the first ever Antarctic Biennale, and was the lead of South Asia’s first supernatural detective 24-part drama thriller.

Bringing together this extensive knowledge and work she founded NeuroCreate – using AI and Neuroscience in a symbiotic digital design to enhance human creativity, performance and wellbeing. She has won Creative Visionary of the year AthenaX Awards, named as one of the Top 20 most inspirational women in Tech by TechRound and shortlisted as AI Innovator (AI Summit) and Entrepreneur of the year (Olympic Legacy). NeuroCreate has been selected as one of the Top 100 Createch companies by the Creative Industries Council, one of the Top 10 neurotech companies by TechRound, shortlisted for the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce ‘Future of Work, Tech for Good’ Awards, and featured in Thrive Global and Forbes.
