Artist

London-based artist, Daniel Lismore was born in Bournemouth and brought up in Fillongley Village, nestled along Coventry’s border. Although he began his career as a photographer, he then stepped into the spotlight as a model. This transition proved pivotal, establishing him as an indispensable creative consultant to photographers including Mert & Marcus, Steven Klein, David LaChapelle, and Ellen von Unwerth.

Lismore has been recognised by Vogue as ‘England’s Most Eccentric Dresser’, he was selected for the Out 100 List’s top 100 in 2017, and made it into the Guardian’s Pride Power List in 2018 and 2020.

Tate Museums’ appointed Daniel Lismore as Circuit Ambassador in 2016, which marked a watershed moment in his career trajectory. This role was preceded by significant exhibitions at Tate Modern in 2012 and at Tate Britain the following year. Both exhibitions centred upon his distinctive self-portraiture work.

His debut book Be Yourself, Everyone Else Is Already Taken was published in 2016 by Rizzoli. This volume captured the essence of 32 figurative sculptures that formed the cornerstone of his first American museum presentation. The exhibition, co-curated alongside Raphael Gomes and the Savannah College of Art and Design, subsequently travelled to Art Basel Miami Beach.

Daniel Lismore also champions sustainable fashion practices. His 2015 collaboration with H&M’s Close the Loop initiative exemplifies his commitment to clothing recycling advocacy. His environmental consciousness extends through ambassadorships with Cool Earth and Greenpeace, alongside collaborative efforts with Dame Vivienne Westwood on her Climate Revolution initiatives. His role as Global Ambassador for Graduate Fashion Week since 2018 draws upon extensive industry experience, including six years steering the creative direction of luxury womenswear label Sorapol, where he crafted designs for Mariah Carey, Cara Delevingne, and Nicki Minaj.

He has featured prominently in both Bulgari campaigns and television programmes such as Sky Arts Portrait of The Year, Marina Abramović Takes Over TV, and Statues Redressed. His cameo appearance in 2015’s Absolutely Fabulous film added another dimension to his portfolio. April 2019 brought his TED Talk debut at Vancouver’s main conference, where “My Life as A Work of Art” explored his existence as a Living Sculpture.

In 2021 Daniel Lismore walked the runway for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Party at the Palace at Buckingham Palace, which was broadcast to 13.3 million viewers globally. His catwalk sculpture paid homage to Queen Elizabeth II whilst incorporating personal elements, realised through collaboration with costume designer Rachele Terrinoni and the London College of Fashion.

Lismore’s debut as a performance artist took place at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2021, where selections from Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken formed part of their Fashion in Motion programme. His innovative approach involved positioning himself as a living statue amongst his sculptural works, delivering masked monologues designed to challenge audience perceptions.

At Chelsea Arts Festival, he will join Dame Zandra Rhodes at Saatchi Gallery for a talk on fashion and self-expression.
